SEINE FISHING EXPERIENCES IN THE LAKE MIEKOJÄRVI IN THE ARCTIC CIRCLE IN TORNE RIVER VALLEY
Join the professionals for a traditional seine excursion on Lake Miekojärvi on the Arctic Circle. The practice of professional seine fishing goes back five generations. Seine fishing best time is the open water season from July to the end of October. The goal is to catch like vendace and smelt. The trip starts on a Sirmet ferry and another seine boat. The best sheltered sandy beach for the day is chosen by the wind and the desired catch or we go to the back waters, where the seine is pulled with two boats. During seining, we enjoy picnic lunch on the beach or on the ferry. Surrounded by scenic landscapes, the pro guides offer a few stories about the history of fishing the lake and the current state of fishing here.
During storms, we do not travel as it is not safe to cross the lake.
